Mrs. Denise Marie Scarzella

October 28, 1955 — February 10, 2024

Beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother

WATERBURY - Denise M. Scarzella, age 68, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Saturday, February 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Denise was the devoted wife of Joseph A. Scarzella, Jr., who together shared 46 years of marriage.

Denise was born on October 28, 1955 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Angela (LaRosa) and Donald Greatorex. Denise was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and a graduate of Crosby High School. For much of her life Denise worked in local retail stores including Shop Rite for 17 years, Big Lots, and Aldis. Denise had a kind heart, loved helping people, and made so many friends through her years at work. Her family says she was like a mom to everybody. Denise met her husband Joe when they were just kids but would go on to fall in love and raise a family together. Her and Joe had Friday night date nights where they would go bowling at Wolcott Lanes, and also shared a love for gardening. She enjoyed time outdoors tending to her yard and feeding the birds. Her family is what Denise cherished most and she always put them first, often before herself. She looked forward to hosting family gatherings at her home. Denise was a proud mother, grandmother, and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Her family takes this opportunity to thank her for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us.

Left to cherish Denise’s memory besides her husband Joe are her two children; Nicole Lubus and her husband Lenny, and Donald Scarzella and his wife Laura, all of Waterbury; her three siblings, Donald Greatorex of Florida, Angela Buonocore (Bob) of Waterbury, and Barbara Angurio (Tony) of Waterbury; her father-in-law, Joseph Scarzella, Sr. (Joyce) of Waterbury. Denise and Joe were blessed with four grandchildren, Mason Lubus, Jiovanni Scarzella, Lexie Lubus, and Jordan Lubus. She is also survived by Jiovanni’s mother and fiancé of her late son, Joanie Sears of Southbury; as well as so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Denise is predeceased by her son Joseph A. Scarzella III.
