THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF DENISE M. SULLIVAN
WATERBURY- Mrs. Denise M. Sullivan age 80 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday December 8th 2017 at Meridian Manor Health Care Center, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the widow of Stephen E. Sullivan.
Denise was born November 5th 1937 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Dennis and Helena (Whelan) McCarthy. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School Class of 1955 and received her nursing degree from Saint Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport. She spent many years working as an RN for various medical facilities in the Waterbury area including Saint Mary's Hospital and she was the former Director of Nursing for 35 years at the Medicare Pavilion now known as Meridian Manor Health Care Center and retired as a utilization review nurse for the Connecticut Department of Corrections. Denise was a diehard UCONN Women's basketball fan, a Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts. Denise was the owner and operator of Demses Crafts, which she ran with her husband, Stephen. What was most important to Denise and what brought her the greatest joy in her life, was spending time with her adored grandchildren whom she loved very much. She was a parishioner of St Leo the Great parish and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
The Sullivan family would like to thank and acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff at Meridian Manor for the loving comfort and compassionate care they provided to Denise during her illness.
Among her survivors are her children; Stephen J. Sullivan and his wife, Linda of Wolcott, Keith B. Sullivan and his wife, Cindy of Annapolis MD, Christopher B. Sullivan and his wife, Christa of Riverton, CT, Sean D. Sullivan of Fort Meyers, FL. and Colleen Sullivan of Cape Coral FL. In addition, she leaves her beloved grandchildren; Shannon, Krissy, Kayla, Jonathan, Lauren, Ashley and Kelly, and her great grandchildren, Aurora, Parker, Peter, Andrew, and Elijah. She was predeceased by her siblings, John "Jack" McCarthy, Rita Murphy and Patricia McMahon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sullivan will be held on Friday, December 15th, 2017 at 11:00 AM when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Leo The Great Church Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, followed by a celebration of life gathering at the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Per Denise's' request there will be no public calling hours.
