WATERBURY - It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Denise G. Wood, age 85, of Waterbury, announce her peaceful passing in the comfort of her home on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by her husband and son. She was the wife of Richard Wood.

Denise was born in Beauvais, France, on November 29th, 1938, the daughter of the late George A. and Marguerite (Griffon) Barbier. Denise grew up and spent most of her young adult life in France, she earned many degrees while going to the University of Cambridge in England and then eventually moved to Waterbury, Connecticut. Denise was a banker for most of her adult life at Wells Fargo. She enjoyed traveling with her family and was a proud treasurer of B'nai B'rith and was the president of JC Wives; and she was responsible for bringing the concept of Meals on Wheels to Waterbury. Denise was always happiest when she was spending time with her family and especially her cat. May her blessing be a memory. 

Besides her devoted husband of 62 years, Richard, she is survived by her two sons; Jean- Yves Wood; his spouse Victoria of Midland, Georgia and Cotter Wood of Thomaston, her granddaughters Gwendolyn and Scarlett Wood of Georgia and her brother-in-law, David Bethancourt and his spouse Cynthia of Waterbury and her sister-in-law Bonnie of Florida. Denise is preceded in death by her siblings, Marcel Hurier and Marguerite Bardot of France.

Graveside committal services will be held on Friday July 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at New Pine Grove Cemetery 850 Meriden Rd, Waterbury, CT 06705. At 3:00 p.m. following the funeral service, all are welcome for a celebration of Denise’s life at 62 Avalon Circle, Waterbury CT.
