Waterbury Dennis K. Collins - age 21 of DeCicco Rd , Waterbury, died peacefully at his home on Monday November 28th 2011 with his mother and step father at his side after a life long illness.
Dennis was born in Waterbury extremely premature on August 14th 1990, the son of Michael H. Smith & Carolyn Collins-Smith. Dennis had fought his entire life with the strength of a million men to overcome 78 surgeries, and many illness including leukemia. Regardless of his ailments and illness's he always shared a smile that would never end, and would always light up a room. Dennis was the 1995 Easter Seals ambassador and was featured on the local Easter Seals telethon. He was also featured in the Republican American newspaper on his 20th birthday and became known to many as " the boy with the balloons" when over 200 people surprised his family by arriving unexpectedly at his home for a surprise birthday celebration bringing balloons.
Dennis always enjoyed wearing hats sometimes several at one time, an he was picky about the hats he wore, he would always get excited at the sight of balloons and loved music especially when "twinkle, twinkle little star" was sung to him. Dennis loved attention and loved to be the center of attention.
Besides his parents, Dennis is survived by his maternal grandparents Janice Hayes and her husband Dennis of Waterbury, Daniel Collins and his wife Lynn of Waterbury, his step grandparents James and Barbara Smith of Loudon Tennessee; his aunts and uncles: Daniel Collins, Michael Collins and his wife Tina, Stephen Collins all of Waterbury, Kevin Collins and his wife Kristin of Southington, Marie and her husband Glen Dixon of Woodbridge, VA, Jim and Lisa Smith of Lithia. Fla. Pattie and Charles Goolsby of Glade Springs, VA. And Ken and Debbie Smith of Black Hawk. SD as well as and many cousins.
Funeral services for Dennis will be held on Friday, December 2nd 10:30 am at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends and family may visit the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 - 8:00p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Dennis' memory may be made to: Easter Seals of Waterbury 22 Tompkins St # 1 Waterbury, CT 06708-1496.
