Despina Hallock

September 4, 1926 — July 12, 2022

Devoted to her family

WATERBURY - Despina Hallock, age 95 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at Complete Care – Glendale Health Care on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She was known as Tina by her friends and Yia Yia or Mumsy, by her family. She was the widow of Homer Hallock.
Mrs. Hallock was born on September 4, 1926, in Waterbury the daughter of the late Stavros and Lemonia (Manolou) Triantafillos. She was educated in local schools and worked for several manufacturing companies in the area, the most notable being International Silver, in Wallingford. Despina’s favorite hobbies were ceramics and crafts. She made so many beautiful ceramic pieces for family members, Christmas, and other holidays. She decorated her home inside and out with love and devotion every Christmas, which was by far her favorite holiday. For as far back as we can remember, she built her small, but beautiful Christmas village every year. She loved to cook and her Greek pastries and Easter dinner traditions will be carried on by her children for generations. She loved to travel and left many memories of the trips she took in the states and abroad, having toured many European countries with her friends.
Despina loved to shop. They wrote the saying, “shop till you drop” just for her. Everyone, at one time or another, would go with her and see the joy she would get out of buying “just one more bobblehead.” Her home was filled with all kinds of figurines and other chatchky stuff that we would lovingly tease her about. Despina loved her gardening. She spent countless hours doing yard work and tending to her flowers all the way up to her 95th birthday. She was a strong, independent woman who took care of herself and others throughout her life, taking great pride in everything she did. She was devoted to her family and her faith as a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury. Despina lived life to the fullest, blessed by the love of family and friends.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children; Mary Lawrence and her husband Kevin of Waterbury, Anthony Hallock and his wife Sharon of Oakville, and Hope Scursso and her husband, Ralph of GA; her grandchildren; Michelle Lawrence, Kevin Lawrence and Anthony Hallock Jr., and her great grandchildren; Jayden Thomas, Evan Hallock and Emily Hallock; as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a dear friend Joanne, who thought of Tina as a mother. She is predeceased by her sister, Catherine Symons, and her brother, Steve Triantafillous.
Rest in Peace Mom/Yia Yia and don’t forget, “ Watch your toes.”
