SOUTHBURY, CT - Ms. Dianne Johnston, age 68 of Southbury, formerly of Waterbury, died peacefully Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness.
Ms. Johnston was born in Waterbury CT on October 27, 1946, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane (Verzier) Johnston. Dianne was a lifelong resident at Southbury Training School and participated in the Special Olympics where she earned several medals in the events she competed in. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, sitting in the sun reading magazines and always looked forward to sharing a meal with her family and taking car rides. She was a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church.
Among her survivors are her brothers; Tim Johnston, Jay Johnston and his wife, Jeanne, all of Punta Gorda, FL and Brian Johnston and his wife, Denise of Waterbury, seven nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Christine Serra.
Dianne's family would like to thank and acknowledge the aides and staff at the Southbury Training School as well as those at Danbury Hospital for the loving care and support they provided to Dianne over the years.
Funeral services for Ms. Johnston will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center," 1987 East Main St.,@ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St., Waterbury) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Relatives and friends may visit with Diane's family on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 ~ 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Home and School Association of Southbury Training School PO Box 872 Southbury, CT 06488.
