Donald G. Harris Sr.

June 10, 1934 — July 30, 2017

OAKVILLE - Mr. Donald G. Harris Sr. age 83 of Oakville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 30, 2017, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted wife after an extended illness. He was the husband of Mary (Henshall) Harris.

Donald was born June 10, 1934 in New Haven, the son of the late Frederik and Julia (Sheehan) Harris. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After 7 years in the Air Force, Donald first worked at Sikorsky Aircraft and then became a route driver for Sunbeam Bakeries, where he worked from 1959 until his retirement in 1994. As a young man, Donald loved playing hockey and did so from 7 years of age until 74. He played on midget teams (sponsored by the NY Rangers) when they won the national championship in 1958-1959. Donald also loved watching UCONN Womens Basketball and was an avid fan for many years. Donald also loved to hunt and fish and was a longtime member of the Southbury/Woodbury Rod & Gun Club. Both he and his wife were members of the Watertown Lions Club for many years. He was a warm, compassionate man who enjoyed everyone he had the privilege to meet and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his wife, Mary of 40 years, Donald is survived by his two sons, Donald Jr and his wife, Mary of Woodbury and David and his wife, Juliana of Trumbull. He also leaves two granddaughters, Sarah Harris and Surra Riger. Donald was predeceased by his brother, Frederick Harris and his sister, Kathleen Harris.

Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be private and held at the convenience of his family. The O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St. Oakville has been privileged to assist his family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, to honor Donald's memory, donations to Vitas Innovative Care
