NAUGATUCK - Donald D. Hayes, age 84 of Naugatuck, went all the way to God's embrace on December 8, 2020. On that date he heard the call he has been waiting for from Jesus saying "Well done my good and faithful servant. Come to me now". We are blessed to know that at least now he is at peace. He was the husband of Bernice (Desrochers) Hayes
Donald was born on October 23, 1936 in Boswell PA, a coal mining town by the light of a small kerosene lamp the son of the late Stephen and Anne (Pollack) Hayes Don was known as "Mr. Fix it" and "Super Wrench". He was a truck mechanic at Lombard Bros. for 25 years and a proud member of Teamsters Local 677 for 30 years. Don loved to go bowling, fishing and golfing during his retirement years. He and Bernice belonged to the Cheshire Cats Square Dancing club.
The Hayes family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and care givers at Seasons Hospice for the service and wonderful care they provided to Donald and his family during his illness.
Left to cherish his memories and honor Don's love and legacy, besides his wife, Bernice of 60 years are his children whom he loved so much; his daughter, Deborah (Joe) Giacin and his sons; David (Connie) Hayes and Michael (Denise) Hayes. He also leaves his sisters; Marie Donaher, Irene (Rich) Chabot, Elizabeth (Al) Graham, his brothers; Ernie Hayes, Raymond Hayes. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren: Denise, Jolene (Eric), Justine (Dan), Andrea, and his beloved great grandchildren, Emma & Lucas as well as many nieces and nephews. Donald also leaves an estranged son Alan Hayes and two grandsons, Stephan and Nathan.
Funeral services for Mr. Hayes will be held on Friday, December 11th 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, Saints Peter and Paul Campus when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. All governmental restrictions related to the Covid 19 Pandemic at the time will be strictly enforced. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery Waterbury. Casey's Eastside Memorial funeral home has been honored to assist the Hayes family during this difficult time.
