WATERBURY - Donald J. McCasland, 65, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maureen (Sullivan) McCasland.
Don was born June 2, 1951, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Peter and Eleanor (Michan) McCasland. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and the University of New Haven where he earned his Bachelors Degree. At the time of his passing he was the Adult Education Grants Administrator for the City of Waterbury, Department of Education. Don was an avid Notre Dame Football and New York Mets fan, but his favorite moments were days spent at the beach with his family. Known for his colorful conversations and outgoing personality, Don was always good for a laugh. His downtime was often spent in a bathing suit and loafers weeding his impeccable lawn. Don cared deeply for his coworkers and friends, but most of all he was a proud father, husband, grandpa and brother, always happiest surrounded by his family.
Besides his loving wife of 32 years, Don leaves his children, daughter, Colleen of Waterbury, his son, Seamus and his wife Jessica of Fairfield, his son, Peter and his wife Kate of Watertown, and his son, Shawn Keating of California. He also leaves his brothers; Peter and his wife Marilyn of Elkhart IN, John and his wife Ann Elizabeth of Middlebury, and his sister, Sandy McCasland of Middlebury, in addition to his four grandchildren, Ella, Eva, Nicholas and Giulia. He was predeceased by his brother, Denis McCasland. He was a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church.
Funeral services for Mr. McCasland will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St. Waterbury at 9:30 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Don's family on Monday evening from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury.
