Born during the Spanish Flu Pandemic
Died during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Doris Marion Indrysek, daughter of the late Ellen and Foster Horton, was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, on December 20, 1919 and left us on December 3, 2020, just shy of turning 101! Her younger brother Foster Horton, Jr. preceded her in death.
Doris was proud to be a Waterburian and lived in Waterbury her whole life except when living on military bases with her husband Stephen. She was a lifetime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. When she was young, she would walk from the west side of town to Wilby High School, where she graduated in 1939, and then to work at S.S. Kresge's on East Main Street. One December day in 1940, she went into the White Tower Restaurant to have dinner and met the love of her life. Six months later Doris and Steve were married. They were happily married for forty years until he passed away at age sixty-four.
During World War II, Doris worked on submarines at Electric Boat. In later years Doris was employed at Princeton Knitting Mills and Timex. After eleven years of marriage, their daughter Janet was born.
Throughout the years Doris would often be seen sewing, crocheting, or sitting outside overlooking the flowers in the garden and the hills of Waterbury. From the moment she woke up, Doris would be wearing a coordinating outfit accessorized with earrings and a necklace! She loved to shop and her favorite stores were Alexander's and Marshalls.
Doris was a true sports fan and loved both the Yankees and the Red Sox! During basketball season, she would enjoy watching her UCONN girls! She also spent her days cheering on her three grandchildren at their games and meets at St. Margaret's McTernan School (Chase Collegiate). Doris also loved the beach, and until last year she could be seen at the Connecticut shore, eating a lobster roll at Lobster Landing!
Doris was blessed to have many close friends, and together they played bingo and cards, went on cruises, or simply took walks together.
Doris will truly be missed by everyone especially her daughter and her husband, Janet and Raymond Behr, Doris's three grandchildren Jennifer LaCapra, Kimberly Caiazzo, and Stephen Behr along with Jennifer's husband Joseph LaCapra and Kimberly's husband Jared Caiazzo. Doris also leaves behind a sister-in-law Lorraine Schmaltz and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Walter and Marie Yurchuk, along with several nieces, nephews, and her roommate for the past year Theresa Behr, who was like a sister to her! To her three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Leo LaCapra, Saverio (Sammy) and Lola Ann Caiazzo, Grandma Doris hopes you will always remember how much she loved you. Finally, as her son-in law Ray said, "Doris is now blessed in Heaven with Papa Steve, sipping a whiskey on the rocks with all of their friends!"
The family would like to thank the staff at Watertown Convalarium and Sheriden Woods for their care of Doris this past year.
