AT EASTSIDE MEMORIAL, A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, Waterbury - Mrs. Dorothy M. (Alexander) Hayes, age 88, of Morris Lane, Waterbury, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Village Green in Waterbury after a brief illness. She was the widow of Edward F. Hayes. .
Dorothy was born in Waterbury on March 29, 1922 the daughter of the late Alex J. and Mary (Evanauskas) Alexander. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed a long fulfilling career at Waterbury Hospital as a Registered Nurse where she worked in the nursery retiring in 1986. Dorothy loved the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching all sports on TV. She was fond of playing scrabble and loved to crochet as she crocheted many gifts each year for the church's giving tree. Dorothy carried with her for many years memories of her trip with her husband to Pearl Harbor on the 45th anniversary of that dreadful day. Dorothy was a daily walker at the mall and loved the friendships she shared there. Dorothy was a dedicated nurse and a parishioner of St Leo the Great Church. She was most happy when surrounded by her adoring family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dennis and his wife Barbara of Southbury, her daughter Kathleen and her husband Ted of Waterbury and her loving grandchildren, Ted E. Greggis and his wife Rachel and Erin Libby and her husband Erik. She also leaves two sisters, Christina Bargelski of Plantsville and Selma Miller of East Granby as well as several nieces and nephews. Dorothy's family would like to acknowledge her home caregivers, Betty and Martha as well as the staff at Waterbury Hospital, Village Green and Vitas for the personal care and attention that they provided Dorothy throughout her illness.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Hayes will be held on Saturday January 5, 2013 at 8:15 am from EASTSIDE MEMORIAL, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St Waterbury to St Leo the Great Church, Brentwood Dr Waterbury to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 till 7:00pm.
