WATERBURY - Mrs. Dorothy K. (Knuchel) Orsini, age 87 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Friday Oct. 21, 2016 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Louis Orsini.
Dorothy was born on June 1, 1929 in Ozone Park NY, the daughter of the late Emil and Hedwig (Salchli) Knuchel who immigrated to this country from their native Switzerland. Dorothy was educated in local schools and worked for many years for the City of Waterbury, School System as a Secretary, first for the Superintendent of Schools and then at Reagan, East Farm and retiring from Chase School. Dorothy was first and foremost the loving and devoted wife of the late Louis Orsini, local community activist, founder of Waterbury Triad, State Representative and business owner. Dorothy was the driving force, strength and organizer behind her husband Lou and his career for 57 wonderful years. She was a Cub Scout Den mother, loved traveling and dancing, UConn Basketball but most of all she enjoyed being with and supporting her family. She was an avid reader of the Waterbury Republican - American, reading it cover to cover, every single day and enjoyed listening to WATR's "Talk of the Town". Dorothy was a strong Christian woman who devoted herself to her husband and family and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Linda Hubina and her husband, Ken of Wolcott, David and his wife, Lori Erkson of Cheshire and Don Orsini of Wolcott. Her devoted grandchildren; Julie (Dan) Bennett, Jonathan (Jennie Marie) Orsini, Michelle Hubina, Sean Rusnack and Steven (April) Rusnack and her three great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Josephine Mazeika, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Knuchel.
Funeral services for Mrs. Orsini will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Dorothy's family on Monday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
