AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
WATERBURY CT - E. Phillip Mason age 80, of Townsend Ave, Waterbury, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23rd at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Diane E. (Lake) Mason.
Mr. Mason was born February 23rd 1931 in Providence RI., the son of the late Earl Everett and Irma (Hultman) Mason. He graduated from Cranston High School and received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island. Mr. Mason proudly served his country as a Sergeant with the US Marines Corps during the Korean War Conflict and worked for the City of Waterbury as the Superintendent of Waste Disposal for over 35 years, before his retirement. Phil was a theater enthusiast and participated and acted in many theatrical productions throughout the area including productions at the Oakville Players, Waterbury Civic Theater, The Southbury Playhouse, The Colonial Tavern Dinner Theater, and the Coachlight Dinner Theater. Just recently, he was a volunteer at the Seven Angels Theater. Phil also modeled for several magazine covers and publications. He enjoyed cooking, reading, and bowling and was a member of the Waterbury Kiwanis Club, the Waterbury Jaycee's, the Highland Bowl Bowling League in Cheshire, and the East Mountain Golf League. Phil was a lifetime member of The First Congregational Church, where he served on several boards such as the Trustees, Diaconate and Schlegel committees. He was also the church librarian. Phil was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed tending to his rose and vegetable gardens.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Diane, Mr. Mason is survived by his three children; Pamela Albon and her husband Thomas of Middlebury, Phillip Read Mason of New York, NY, and Joanne C. Mason of Waterbury. He also leaves a brother, Robert of March, England and two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Albon and Eric Phillip Albon as well as two nieces and one nephew. The Mason/Albon family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff at the St. Mary's Hospital ICU.
A memorial service for Mr. Mason will be held on Saturday April 30th at the First Congregational Church of Waterbury, 222 W. Main St Waterbury at 11:00 a.m. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family with the arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Mason's memory may be made to the Waterbury Kiwanis Club at P.O. Box 1952 Waterbury CT 06722.
