WATERBURY - Earl F. Rompre, Sr. age 92, of Waterbury passed peacefully away, after a brief illness, on Monday May, 12, 2014 with his family at his side at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital. He was the widower of Dorothy (Byron) Rompre.
Mr. Rompre was born September 6, 1921 in Waterbury the son of the late Joseph E. and Rena ) (Benoit) Rompre. He was a graduate of St. Anne's Grammar School and Leavenworth High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Earl was a machinist by trade and worked at Chase Brass and Copper and American Brass. A devoted Catholic, he never met a stranger. He walked the walk; and his life was a model of genuine and authentic Christianity that others could strive to emulate. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle, compassionate, generous, and loving father, husband, brother, son, and friend. He enjoyed fishing and sports and was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees and UCONN basketball. He looked forward to his annual family trips to the casinos and was a great storyteller. He was an active and lifetime member of VFW Post 201 in Waterbury where he served as past Commander as well as Chaplain for many years. He was a parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church.
Among his survivors are his three sons; Earl F. Rompre Jr and his wife Ann of Waterbury, George J. Rompre and his wife Barbara of Prospect and Mark S. Rompre and his wife Christine of Stratford and his daughter, Robin Rompre and her partner Dawn of Gainesville FL. He also leaves a brother, Ray Rompre of Watertown, and two sisters, Claire Donnelly of Wolcott and Sr. Rita Rompre, Congregation of Notre Dame stationed in West Haven as well as 5 grandchildren; Dawn, Rebecca, Christie, Cherie and Justin and several great grandchildren. Earl was predeceased by his son, Ronald, daughter, Darlene, grandson Earl F. III, sister, Sr. Beatrice Rompre DHS and brother Robert.
Funeral services for Mr. Rompre will be held on Friday May 16, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St. @ Southmayd Rd., Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
