THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF EDGAR PURDY

"Proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Retired Waterbury Firefighter and Loving Uncle"

WATERBURY - Edgar L. Purdy, age 92 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Cheshire House in Waterbury. He was the widower of Adele (Lipnicki) Purdy..

Edgar was born on December 19, 1926 in Waterbury the son of the late George and Florence (Payne) Purdy. He was educated in local schools and was a member of the "greatest generation", a veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country during World War II. He served on the USS Pasig and was a 3rd class carpenter. Edgar actually witnessed an atomic bombing from aboard his ship in the Bikini Islands. Following his distinguished service, he returned to Waterbury and joined the City of Waterbury Fire Dept, where he heroically served for 37 years. He continued to use the skills he learned in the service as a accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker. Edgar was a former Commander of the American Legion Post 195 in Watertown and a member of the VFW Post 7330. He was a parishioner of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, St Leo the Great Church. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed woodworking, cribbage, jumble word puzzles, gardening, watching his roses bloom and especially enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. Edgar will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Lavorgna and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Adele of 64 years and his brother, Kenneth.

Edgar's family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Kindred Care, Hartford Healthcare and the Cheshire House for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Edgar and shared with his family. They would also like to extend a very special thank you to everyone at the Village of East Farms for making Edgar feel so much at home the last many months.
