Beloved Husband and Father
WATERBURY – Edmond “Ned” Keane age 88, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness on June 8th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Hanson) Keane.
Ned was born November 30th, 1934, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Edmond J. and Susan (Whalen) Keane. Ned grew up on Washington Hill with many Irish neighbors and was a graduate of St. Francis Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School. He spent 40 years working at CL&P, starting in electrical construction, later with the safety department, and retiring as a supervisor for electrical construction. Ned was passionate about youth sports spanning over many decades, he played and coached the Saint Francis Xavier CYO Basketball Team and led them to the 1954 State Championship and spent many years coaching the Hopeville and VFW 201 basketball and baseball teams in the Little Fellas League. He was also an avid NY Giants and UConn Huskies fan and had the opportunity to attend many of their final four games. Ned enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to Ireland and enjoyed cruising throughout the world with his wife. What brought the greatest joy to Ned and his favorite thing to do was to spend time at his home at the beach in Old Lyme where he would enjoy biking, boating, fishing, and relaxing on the beach and spending precious time with his family. Ned was exceptional in almost every way but he excelled the most at being a devoted husband, father and friend. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He was loved beyond words and will be missed tremendously.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory besides his wife of 58 years, Barbara, are his children; Gary Keane (Noreen) of Nashville TN, Greg Keane (Rose) of Waterbury, and Lynn Keane of Cheshire. He also leaves his beloved grand dog and faithful partner, Bailey and was predeceased by his fur grandbaby, Louie.
