WATERBURY Edmund "Ned" Blewitt, age 100, formerly of Lockhart Ave. Waterbury, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 9, 2013, at The Summit of Plantsville after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Marguerite A. (Shea) Blewitt
Mr. Blewitt was born December 1, 1912 in Bridgeport, son of the late Albert E. and Ella C. (Griffin) Blewitt. He was a graduate of Crosby High School , Class of 1931 and was the former co-owner and proprietor of the Blewitt & Sullivan Market, which he owned with his sister the late Marion B. Sullivan, an East End landmark at the corner of East Main & Knoll St for over 50 years. He was member of the East End Senior Center and the East End Community Club and was a Parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church. Ned was a long time member of the Woodman of the World.
Among his survivors are his niece, Brenda S. Wooding and her husband Philip of Southington and nephews Edmund R. Sullivan and his wife Barbara of Waterbury, Dennis Shea and his wife Claire of South Carolina and David Shea and his wife Barbara of New Hampshire as well as several great nieces and nephews. Ned was pre-deceased by his infant son, Edmund S. Blewitt, his daughter, Mary E. Blewitt, his siste,r Marion B. Sullivan, a niece Deirdre Murnane Brehl and a nephew Dennis F. Murnane. Mr Blewitt's family would like to thank the staff at The Summit at Plantsville for the excellent care he received there.
Funeral Services for Mr. Blewitt will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2012 at 10:00am from Eastside Memorial, A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to SS Peter & Paul Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM. Rite of committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends of Mr. Blewitt may visit at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9-10AM. Memorial donations may be sent to WARC 1929 East Main St. Waterbury in Mr. Blewitt's memory.
