WATERBURY – Edmund Harold "Ned" Roche age 83, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Saint Mary’s Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Katherine (Meccariello) Roche.
Ned was born in Waterbury on Thanksgiving Day - November 30, 1939, the only child of the late Edmund W. and Gladys M. (Brennan) Roche. Ned was a lifelong Waterbury resident and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School Class of 1957. Shortly after graduation, he began a 50+ year career at the Waterbury Republican-American Newspaper. He started as a mail boy, then moved to the composing room for over three decades and finished his career as a graphic designer around 2009. In his free time, Ned enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, eating out at his favorite restaurants, going on short vacations, and watching sports and horse racing. He adored his twin 6-year-old grandchildren and frequently spent time playing games and doing activities with them.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish besides his loving wife of 47 years, Katherine, his son Shaun and his wife, Angelica of Cromwell, and his grandchildren; Thomas and Charlotte. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Barbara Meccariello of Cheshire.
Funeral services for Mr. Roche will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish – Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd, Waterbury. Burial will follow in Old Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Ned’s family on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until leaving for church at 10:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main Street, @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury.
