AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury - Mr. Edward P. Callan, age 96, longtime Waterbury resident, died peacefully on Thursday, May 26, surrounded by his family at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. He was the widower of Simone Callan .
Mr. Callan was born in Waterbury on March 7, 1915 the son of the late Peter and Sarah (McArdle) Callan. Ed served in the CT National Guard during World War II. He was a longtime employee of Chase Brass and Copper and retired after 45 years of service as a foreman. He was also employed at Thom McAn's in Waterbury for 25 years. Ed was especially proud of his service to the Knights of Columbus, Sheriden Council in Waterbury where he attained 4th degree status and also served as Financial Secretary. Proud of his Irish Heritage, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monsignor Slocum Division # 1 and he was honored to be selected as the Irish Mayor of the Day for the City of Waterbury in 2000. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, a skilled artist, enjoyed playing setback at the K of C, reading and spending quality time with his family.
Ed leaves his children and their spouses: Ann and Art Hobson, Richard and Barbara Callan and Janet and Raymond LeClair, his adoring grandchildren, Lee and Sylvia Callan, Patrick Callan and his fiancé Ashley Thesen, Peter and Laura Callan, Jordan Callan, David and Heather Bruce, 3 great grandchildren and several nephews. Ed was predeceased by his sister, Mary VanGeersdaele and his brothers, James Callan and Joseph Callan.
Ed's family would like to thank and acknowledge the nurses and staff at Glendale for the compassionate care shown to him during his stay.
Funeral services for Mr. Callan will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:30am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12noon. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00am till 11:30am.
