AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
Mr. Edward R. Fischer, of Overvale Rd., Wolcott, died Sunday at Glendale Health Care in Naugatuck after a brief illness He was the husband of the late Terri (Murphy) Fischer who passed away in January 2007.

Edward was born in Beacon Falls CT on May 9, 1921, one of seven children born to the late William and Ida (DuBois) Fischer. He attended grade school in Beacon Falls and graduated from Naugatuck High School. Following his education he worked part time at both the New York and New Haven/Hartford Railroad as well as the federally funded Youth Administration. He began his career at the US Rubber Co in 1939, moved to the Uniroyal Chemical Div. in 1943 and entered the US Army in 1944, where he proudly served his country during World War II as an Infantry Rifleman, Utility Repairman , Driver and General Clerk. He was stationed in the Phillipines, with an amphibious tank battalion along with the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged early in 1946 due to the death of his only brother William in the war at Anzio Beach. The Beacon Falls Post # 25, is named in honor of his fallen brother. He returned to his employment at Uniroyal Chemical where he met his bride to be Terri Murphy. Edward retired from the Chemical in 1984 after 42 years of service. Ed enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, watching the Red Sox win and the Yankees lose on TV and going out to eat.

Ed and Terri raised four children in Beacon Falls and moved to Wolcott in 1970. He joined the American Legion Post 165 in early 1972 where he was elected Historian that first year and moved up the chairs, serving on many committees including four years as Commander in 1979-1981 and 1982-1984. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1979, 40/8 Voiture 328 and was awarded a life membership from Post 165. At the time of his passing he was Judge Advocate for Post 165. On the District level , Ed served as Deputy Vice Commander, Finance Officer, Jr. Vice Commander and Sr. Vice Commander as well as 2nd District Commander.

Edward is survived by his 3 daughters, Janice Hull and her husband Bob of Southington Eileen Mucci and her husband Al of Wolcott, Lisa O'Dell and her husband Rob of Rose, OK; and 4 sons, Ronald Fischer and his wife Pat of Naugatuck, William (Bill) Fischer of Thomaston, Michael Fischer of Wolcott and Edward Fischer of Spring Hill, FL, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews. His grandson, Nicholas O'Dell predeceased him


Funeral services with full military honors for Mr. Fischer will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Casey O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St. Waterbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 ?" 7pm.
