- Mr. Edward L. Hummel, age 81, of Wislock St. Waterbury, died Sunday after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Nancy (Noonan) Hummel..
Edward was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin on July 7, 1927, the son of the late Louis and Helen (Hyland) Hummel. He graduated from Crosby High School and the University of Connecticut (UCONN) where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and proudly served his country during World War II. He was employed for many years at Peter-Paul, Cadbury in Naugatuck as the Director of Research and Development. He was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Church.
Besides his loving wife of 56 years, Edward leaves three children, his son, David of Boca Raton FL and two daughters, Cynthia Hummel and her husband Daniel Shusterof Minneapolis MN and Paula Meo and her husband Bill, of South Windsor CT. He also leaves four grandchildren, Thomas Shuster and David, Nicole and Julia Meo and several nieces and nephews. Edward was pre-deceased by his sister, Marion Murphy.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors for Mr. Hummel will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Leo the Great Church, Bentwood Dr. Waterbury with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Attendees are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington CT. Family and friends may visit at the Casey - O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury on Thursday evening from 5 - 7 pm.
