WATERBURY- Mr. Edward P. "Neddy" Phelan Jr., age 42, of Watertown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his family.
Ned was born in Waterbury on October 19, 1971 the son of Elizabeth (Birmingham) Phelan and the late Edward P. Phelan Sr. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Wilby High School. Ned was a longtime resident of Key Services, Pond View Group home in Watertown where he was an active client and enjoyed many good years of fellowship there. Ned will be remembered for the positive effect his exuberance for life brought to so many, especially his own family and friends. He taught all whom he touched so much about life and was an "angel on earth". Ned was also a full organ donor and because of his generosity he will continue to live on in many others. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Church in Waterbury.
Besides his mother of Waterbury, Ned leaves his siblings, brothers; William of Waterbury and Peter of West Haven, sisters; Mary Beth Mendillo of Watertown, Christine Brady of Southborough MA, Pamela Phelan of Waterbury and Kathleen Williams of Flourtown PA. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in addition to his special family and friends at the Pond View Group Home and the Bidwell Center in Waterbury
Funeral services for Mr. Phelan will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from Eastside Memorial, a Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Ned's family on Thursday from 4:00 till 7:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ned's memory may be made to Key Human Services, Pond View Recreation Fund 1290 Silas Deane Highway Suite 1A Wethersfield CT 06109 ATT: Dan Mathieu.
