Southington - Edward M. "Ted" Proulx, age 88, of Hobart St Southington, formerly of Hamilton Ave. Waterbury, died peacefully Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Bradley Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Elsie (McCarthy) Proulx.
Mr. Proulx was born November 6th 1921 in Waterbury, the son of the late Omer and Agnes (Murray) Proulx. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and received his bachelors degree from Niagara University. Ted worked as an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company for over 20 years before his retirement. Ted dedicated countless years and hours to many local community organizations and was an active member of several clubs including, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monsignor Slocum Division #1, Waterbury, and the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 39, where he was a committee member. Ted was very involved in the Waterbury Elks Club, BPO Lodge # 265 where he was honored to serve as "Elk of the Year" in 1994-1995 and was a longtime member of the bowling and setback leagues. Ted volunteered as a driver for the Saint Vincent DePaul Shelter, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Sheriden Council, where he was a 4th degree knight. An active member of Saint Anthony's Church in Prospect, Ted also volunteered during Bingo night. Ted enjoyed collecting stamps and following sports, especially UCONN women's basketball.
Among his survivors are his two sons, Robert Proulx and his wife Alice, of St Louis Missouri, and James Proulx and his wife Dana of Waterbury, his brother, Thomas Proulx of Middlebury, his sister, Veronica Ayotte of Waterbury, and his five grandchildren, Robert, Danielle, Jessica, Renee' and Adam. He also leaves four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother Joseph.
Funeral services for Mr. Proulx will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury to St. Anthony's Church Routes 68 & 69, Prospect, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 ?" 8:00pm.
