WATERBURY - Eileen K. (Killian) Gibbons, age 87 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Waterbury Hospital with her family by her side. She was the widow of James E. Tansley and Raymond Gibbons.

Eileen was born June 6, 1931, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Gilligan) Killian. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Waterbury Catholic High School and St. Mary's Hospital, School of Nursing. Eileen began her career at St. Mary's Hospital working in the Nursery Unit for more than 20 years, and then transitioned to Allergy Associates of Waterbury where she worked for nearly 30 years. She was an avid reader, who loved to travel, dance, and was a loyal fan of jazz, traditional pop and swing music, especially Frank Sinatra. She was particularly proud of her Irish heritage. What was most important to Eileen was her family and grandchildren, with whom she loved to spend time. She was a parishioner of Mary Mother of the Church Parish, St. Leo the Great Church. Eileen will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Eileen leaves her sons, James Tansley and his wife, Jane, and Michael Tansley and his wife, Sandi, all of Wolcott, her daughter, Sharon Peel and her husband, Mark, of Hamden, her grandchildren, James Tansley and his wife, Ashley, Shannon and Sean Tansley, Kourtney Heintz, Katie Peel, Kerry Goldstein, Erin Nutter, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Annie. She was pre-deceased by her infant son, Gerard, her sisters, Mary Roberge and Nancy McGeever, and her brothers, James and Michael Killian.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gibbons will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, St. Leo the Great Church, 22 Bentwood Dr., Waterbury, CT. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home has been privileged to assist Eileen's family with arrangements.
