Staten Island NY- Eileen A. Thomas, age 69, of Staten Island NY, formerly of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26th 2014 at her home.
Eileen was born June 17, 1945 the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Lucie (Falcone) Beland. She grew up in Waterbury and was a graduate of Wilby High School Class of 1963. Eileen loved to dance and danced with the Betty Mallon Dance Studio in Waterbury. While on a trip to New York City to see the Rockette's at Radio City Music Hall, her mother asked her "wouldn't it be wonderful to be on stage dancing with the Rockette's?" It was only a short time later that Eileen had her chance to audition and was hired as a Rockette, almost instantly. She would perform up to four shows daily and had performed as a Rockette over 1400 times including holiday shows and at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades. After her dancing career, Eileen took an interest in real estate and worked as a real estate agent in the Staten Island area for many years. She also had a passion for astronomy and was a member of the Amateur Astronomy Association where she taught astronomy courses.
Among her survivors are her step-father, Leslie Beland of Waterbury, her Aunts, Fran Falcone and Dora McDermott both of Waterbury as well as several cousins and close friends including Joe Civitate of CA.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 56 Southmayd Rd Waterbury at 10:30am. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
