"A GOOD MAN"

Elder Cleophus 'Pops' Goodman, 91 was born on March 19, 1930. He passed away unexpectedly and entered eternal rest on Monday, November 22, 2021 in Waterbury, CT. He was the husband of Evangelist Linda Lewis Goodman.

Elder Cleophus Goodman was born in Gates, NC, son of the late Linwood Goodman and late Ollie Mae Harrell Goodman. He was a native of Suffolk, VA and moved to Waterbury, CT in the 1970's. He was employed with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Norfolk, VA, Planters Peanut Company, Suffolk, VA, National Screen Company, Inc, Richmond, VA and Waterbury Housing Authority, Waterbury, CT.

Elder Goodman accepted the call to ministry. He was appointed as a minister in 1963 by Elder A. V. Mitchell of New Gospel Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Suffolk, VA. He ministered with his father, Superintendent Linwood Goodman Sr of New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C. in Carrsville, VA. God Blessed Elder Goodman in Ministry. In 1973, he was ordained as an Elder by Bishop Jefferson of Holy Trinity C.O.G.I.C in Hartford, CT.

In 1974 Elder Goodman became a member of New Bethel C.O.G.I.C in Waterbury, CT under the leadership of the late Superintendent Roland Rowe. Elder Goodman was a faithful member and served within his church. He was the Vice President of the Men's Department. He was a musician for the church playing the guitar, piano, and harmonica. He was a soloist and sang for the Men's Choir. Elder Goodman was a praying man and regularly attended noon day prayer. He loved praying, preaching, and also singing and dancing for the Lord. Elder Goodman was an active member of New Bethel Church C.O.G. I. C under the Leadership of Bishop Augustus Pullen. As Elder Goodman's health started to fail, he fellowshipped with wife at House of Prayer Church in Waterbury, CT under the leadership of Pastor James Lilley.

Elder Goodman was a firm believer of God's Word and lived a HOLY life. He was a loving father who led by example. He taught his children the ways of the Lord and holiness. He held family prayer in his home for many years. Elder Goodman was a humble man who loved sharing the word of God with everyone. He was a loving husband. He often ministered with his wife Evangelist Goodman. They always worked together to pray for people and were on a mission to save souls for Christ.

Elder Goodman was well known in his community simply as 'Preacher' or 'Pops'. He was an excellent auto mechanic, carpenter, electrician and mover. He enjoyed family prayer, reading the bible, family events, traveling, driving down south, fishing, joking, eating and cooking. He baked the best sweet potato jacks and sweet potato pies. Everyone who came in contact with him knew he loved God, his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, family and friends. Elder Goodman fought a good fight and imparted so much in us at every stage of his life. He lived a full blessed life.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife Evangelist Linda Lewis Goodman, beloved mother-in-law Mrs. Edris Lewis, 12 beloved children; six sons, Lorenzo White, Cleophus Goodman Jr., Elton (Marion) Goodman, Aubrey Lewis, Eddie Stewart, and Jachius (Bria) Stewart, six daughters, Carolyn (Roy) Spinola, Regina (Carlton) Davy, Ollie Grimsley, Margaret (Moncure) Williams, Moretha Martin, and Nicole Lewis. In addition, he leaves five beloved grandchildren that he raised, Jerry (Tonya) Goodman, Marshana Dawkins, Steven Goodman, Sean Hicks and Nehemiah Lewis. One brother, Otis Goodman. Five sisters, Ethel Horton, Mary Warren, Mildred Knight, Anita Baker, and Cathy Ricks. Four brothers-in-law, Freddie D (Ruby) Lewis, Johnathon Lewis, Andreas Lewis and Kevin (Aretta) Johnson. Seven Sisters-in-law; Cecelia Baker, Yvonne McCauley, Rosalyn Lewis (Willie) Flowers, Sheryle Harris, Valencia Lewis, Valerie Johnson and Audrey Lewis. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Elder Goodman was predeceased by his parents, Superintendent Linwood Goodman, Ollie Mae Harrell Goodman and Lizzie B Goodman, three children, Robert White, Russell Goodman, Geraldine Goodman, five sisters, Lula Wiggins, Eloise Marie Reid, Margaret Jones, Joyce Harris, Trina Artis, four brothers; James Goodman, Franklin Goodman, Linwood Goodman, Jr., Willie Baker; late wife, Bertha White Goodman.
