Devoted to her family and her faith

WATERTOWN - Eleanor E. Charland (Coer), age 88, died Monday, October 19, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital, Vitas Inpatient Hospice Unit, after a long battle with Leukemia.

Ellie, as she preferred to be called, was born on January 19, 1932 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Harold Coer, Sr. and Lillian Joyal. A resident of Watertown, Ellie attended Wilby High School and worked for many years at Southern New England Telephone Co. She was married to Giles Albert Charland at St. Bridget Church in Cheshire in 1955 and on October 1, 2020 they celebrated their 65th anniversary. A long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Church she attended daily rosary and mass for many years. She was a member of the 3rd order of Carmelites (Waterbury Chapter). She enjoyed camping, reading, making puzzles, praying the rosary, and spending time with her family, especially "coffee and" on Sundays.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories are, her husband, Giles Charland, her sisters, Margaret Mazeika and Louise Donlan, daughter, Suzanne Hoyt and husband Richard of Watertown, Michael Charland of Waterbury, Lisa Hanson and husband, Scott of Watertown, son, Glen Charland and wife, Janet of Myrtle Beach, SC, and son, Garth Charland and wife, Teresa of Thomaston. Eleanor and Giles we blessed with eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Harold Coer, Jr., Raymond Coer, and Robert Coer.

Funeral services for Mrs Charland will be held on Friday October 23, 202 at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main St Watertown. All those planning to attend are reminded that all applicable guideline regarding COVID # 19 will be strictly enforced. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Ellie would prefer to have Catholic masses scheduled in her memory or donations can be made to St. John the Evangelist Church 574 Main St Watertown CT 06795.
