WATERBURY - Eleanor (Midgley) Hackett, age 91, passed away peacefully at The Summit in Plantsville on February 12, 2017. She was the widow of Francis (Frank) Hackett, to whom she was married for 68 years and who passed away on August 12, 2016.
She was born December 30, 1925 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William (Harry) and Annabella Ross Midgley. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and graduated from Wilby High School in 1944 and attended Post Junior College. Eleanor began working in the Scovill Co. offices where she met her husband, Francis (Frank) Hackett. She retired from the Cost Office at Scovill to raise her family in 1951. Being a stay-at-home Mom were the happiest years of her life. She was proud of all her children and their accomplishments whether big or small. After her children were raised, she and Frank enjoyed traveling. They visited Hawaii, Ireland, England and Scotland and spent a month each winter in Florida. Eleanor was an avid Mets fan and enjoyed games at Shea Stadium. She and Frank enjoyed dining out in the Waterbury area and most of all they
enjoyed spending %me with her children, grandchildren and great grandson
She was a strong advocate for her son, Tom, who had cerebral palsy. Her love and care greatly contributed to his long and happy life. She was active in Cerebral Palsy - serving as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors for many years also serving on the Board of Directors for Prime Care. She also worked at Worth's Clothing Store, First Federal Bank and Whitewood Manor Convalescent Home. Eleanor was an active member of St. Patrick Church, the Ladies Guild, and taught catechism for several years. Eleanor was a recipient of the Archdiocese of Hartford, Prestigious Award, "The St. Joseph's Medal".
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Karen Hackett and her husband, Robert Carlisle of Chicago, IL; her beloved sons: Terrence and his wife, Sandra of Florida and Brian and Jennifer Philbrick of Plantsville, CT. She also leaves four grandchildren: Lorraine Hackett, Justin Hackett, Ryan Hackett and Marissa Hackett Pierson, one great-grandson, Jayden Serencko, and her former daughter-in-law, Lori Hackett. She was pre-deceased by her son, Thomas and her brother, Justin. The family would like to thank the Athena Hospice Team for their support during these difficult final months.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hackett will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick's Church, 50 Charles Street, Waterbury at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit with Eleanor's family on Thursday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Road, Waterbury, CT.
