THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF ELEANOR LYMAN

OAKVILLE - Eleanor Frances (Spadola) Lyman, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018 at her home after a long illness. She was the wife and best friend of the late Raymond J. Lyman who passed away in 1992, after nearly 46 years of marriage.

Eleanor was born January 18, 1922 in Waterbury, CT. She was the eldest daughter of the late Francis J. and Ivy J. (McKinney) Spadola. She was also the granddaughter of the late Nicola "Nicholas" and Maria Spadola who emigrated from Ruoti, Province of Potenza, Italy to Waterbury in 1889. She was raised and educated in schools in Naugatuck.

Mrs. Lyman was employed as the co-owner of Baribault Oil Company in Oakville for decades. She, along with her husband Raymond, and son Joseph ran the business until her retirement in1991. Prior to working at Baribault Oil Company, she had worked at Waterbury Tool.

She was a long time communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville. Eleanor enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Europe, Hawaii and Bermuda. Eleanor was a sports fan. She enjoyed watching and following her favorite teams, which included: Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and the UCONN Women's basketball team. Eleanor was a private woman of few words who always listened intently and observed what was going on around her.

Eleanor is survived by her son Joseph R. Lyman and his wife Kay of Watertown, grandchildren, Susan (Lyman) Santopietro, and her husband John and their son Ryan of Watertown and Sandra (Lyman) Brodeur and her husband James and their son Patrick of Watertown.

She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Antonio "Tony" Latina formerly of Naugatuck as well as many cousins from the Spadola family. She was also predeceased by aunts and uncles Giuseppina "Josephine", Giuseppe, Rocco, Adeline, Vincenzo "James", Anna, Louise and Filomena "Phyllis" Spadola.

A special and heartfelt thanks to Eleanor's primary caregiver, Irene for her patience, dedication, kindness and caring during Eleanor's journey.

A Mass of Christian burial for Eleanor will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday March 24 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 16 Buckingham Street, Oakville. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery, 180 Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St, Oakville has been entrusted to assist the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor's memory to St. Mary Magdalen School, 140 Buckingham St, Oakville, CT 06779 would be greatly appreciated.
