AT THE CASEY-ODONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
WATERBURY CT. Mrs. Eleanor Apolonia (Vaitkus) Ryan, joined the Lord and her family in heaven on Saturday, October 9, 2010, one month shy of her 88th birthday. Eleanor passed peacefully at the Bucks Hill Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of James T. Ryan, to whom she was married for 55 years.
Eleanor was born November 24, 1922 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Antonas and Petrone Vaitkus. She was a graduate of Wilby High School, Waterbury, CT. Eleanor and Jim were both long-time contributors and participants of the Catholic Church's Pre-Cana program, where they counseled, and helped prepare countless couples to join in the holy sacrament of matrimony. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart, St. Thomas, and more recently, St. Michael's Church. Eleanor's family extends a warm thank you to the staff at Bucks Hill especially Paula, Betty and Carmen for their dedicated and loving care.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ricchezza and her husband Francis of Wolcott, and sons; James and his wife Patricia of Nashua, NH, Robert and his wife Mary Ellen of Wolcott, and David and his wife Laurel of Waterbury. Eleanor also leaves seven grandchildren: Steven Ricchezza, Christopher Ricchezza and his wife Sandra, Daniel Ricchezza, Lisa McCall and her husband Sean, Susan Frye and her husband Scott, and Meaghan and Patrick Ryan as well as six great grandchildren, Lydia and Kurtis Ricchezza, Ryan and Jessica McCall and Zachary and Matthew Frye. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William, a brother, Anthony Vaitkus and a sister Mary Kessler.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ryan will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 9:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St. Waterbury to St. Michael's RC Church 62 St Michaels Dr. Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 till 7pm. Memorial donations in Mrs. Ryan's memory may be made to Masonicare Home Health and Hospice Program 33 North Plains Industrial Rd. Wallingford CT 06492 or to the charity of the donors choice.
