Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis

November 26, 1928 — April 10, 2018

WATERBURY - Elizabeth "Betty" (Doyle) Lewis age 89 of Waterbury passed away peacefully at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Walter Lewis who was the love of her life for 57 years.

Betty was born on November 26, 1928 in Waterbury the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Skahan) Doyle. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar and High School. Betty worked at Sacred Heart Rectory, Sacred Heart High School and finally as the bookkeeper and secretary at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. She was a woman of great faith and was loyal to her faith until the very end. What was most important to Betty was her family. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and would always remind her children that "the best proof of any union is what it produces". Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a loving and devoted mother is the greatest of them all. Betty will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Betty leaves her children; Mary Zasada and her husband, Peter of Bethlehem, David and his wife, Janice of Bowdoinham ME, Richard and his wife, Janet of Waterbury and Michael and his wife, Susan of Farmington CT. She also leaves her grandchildren; Kathleen, Andrew, Margaret, Ryan, Morgan, Brett and Mikey as well as her sister, Eileen Doyle Schumann and her husband, Edward of Clinton and her sisters-in-law; Shirley Norris Lawlor and her husband, Edward of Watertown, Judith Houle of South Britain and Joanne Houle of Ocala FL as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her sister, Margaret (Doyle) Bannon. The Lewis family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Emergency Department, Sacred Heart 5, the Office of Dr. Jega and the entire staff at the Village of East Farms for the loving, compassionate and personal care they shared with Betty during her illness. Their thoughtfulness and professional compassion will not be forgotten.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lewis will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Betty's family on Friday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT 06705.
