THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF ELIZABETH 'TINA' KELLY

Loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

WATERBURY - Elizabeth "Tina" (Doria) Kelly, 91, a lifelong resident of Waterbury passed away following a brave and valiant fight against COVID-19 on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Cheshire House in Waterbury.

Tina was born on February 4, 1929 in Waterbury the daughter of the late Nicola and Lesabeta (Polera) Doria, who both emigrated from Calabria, Italy. Tina graduated Wilby High School in 1936 and went out into the workforce to provide for her family. Tina worked at L.R Yelding for 10 years. Moving on to Craftsman Litho (later re-named Cenveo) as an administrative assistant for another 35 years. In 2003, Tina worked as a receptionist at the Office of Mayor Michael Jarjura where she found great joy greeting constituents and visitors, always with a smile and purpose. Working there gave her life new meaning and she made many new friends and enjoyed helping others. Tina was well known in the City, especially for all the great food she would often bring in to share with staff. Tina worked in the City until 2011, when she finally "retired" at age 82.
Tina enjoyed bingo at St. Leo the Great Church, going to the casino, and being a chef in her own right. Interestingly, her name "Tina" is shortened from Bettina (a family given name), and those closest to her called her such. Although to the many, she was known as Tina, she was also revered to as "Nonie" not just by her grandchildren. Nonie showed her love in food and was well known in the City for her famous lasagna. There was not a party she would attend, where a few people would hover over the dessert table, looking for her famous pie! Nonie looked forward to the next party, and of course, the next pie request! Above all else it was her family that brought her the greatest joy and purpose in life. She was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren that adored her and were devoted to her. Nonie returned that devotion, ten-fold. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her love and memory, are her sister, Mary (Doria) Swift of Wolcott, her daughter in law and Sandra Kelly of Naugatuck. Tina was blessed with her grandchildren, Michael Kelly (Gina) of Wolcott, Staci Jarjura-Groppi (Peter) of Waterbury, Nicole Jarjura-Morgan (Christopher) of Plantsville, Danielle Kelly-Bosworth (Ray) and her beloved 6 great-grandchildren Santino, Ava Li, Peter Jr, Alliana, Domenic, and Christiano. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who loved her deeply.
She was predeceased by her son, Thomas F. Kelly, her daughter, Lisa D. Jarjura, her sister, Teresa Galletta, and her brother, Vito Doria whom she sorely missed and spoke of often to ensure their memories continued to live on. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cheshire House for the love, strength and caring they shared with Tina and her family, during her stay there.

Due to the current governmental restrictions concerning COVID 19, funeral services for Tina Kelly will be limited to a graveside interment on Wednesday May 6, 2020 in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury at 10;30 a.m. on Wednesday when the procession will leave for Calvary Cemetery.
