Faithful Child of God - We have just lost one more

WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Eneida (Casillis) Melendez age 71 of Waterbury share news of her unexpected passing on Monday January 13, 2025 at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. She was the widow of Michael Angelo Melendez Sr.who passed in 2021.

Eneida was born on October 27, 1953 in Humacao Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Isidoro and Fermina (Torres) Casillis. A bright and dedicated student and employee, she received double associates degrees and worked for many years as a Payroll Supervisor in the Healthcare Industry. She was many wonderful things; kind, loving, and fun to be around. Always with a ready smile, Eneida knew how to love with her generous spirit and her whole heart. Shorty has left her mark on all who knew her, to know her was to love her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will live on in our hearts.

Known to family and friends as Shorty, she was a proud and loving parent to Michael and JD, second mom to Wesley, Teddy and Ronald, delightful aunt to many nieces and nephews, loving grandmother to Christian and Jadiel, also Niko, Natalia and Bella. Always remained close to the Casillas, Shorty was a loving sibling to her 3sisters: Sara, Blanca, Nestaly, her brothers: Bobby, Efrain, Tony. and her late brother Isidoro (Cholo). She was an especially truly loving and loyal friend to many.

Funeral services for Eneida will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705. Relatives and friends may visit with Eneida’s family on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 pm when the funeral service will begin. Prayer service for Eneida will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Melendez family on Friday morning at 10:00 am till the prayer service starts at 11:00 am.
