WATERBURY, CT - Mrs. Ermelinda Polaco, age 100 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Beacon Brook Health Care Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Jose Polaco.
Mrs. Polaco was born August 28th 1914 in Santos Brazil, the daughter of the late Servino and Carmelinda Francisco. She grew up in Lousa, Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1955 with her family. She worked as a machine operator at the former Metal Fabrications of Waterbury, retiring after 22 years of service. She enjoyed making lace table cloths and coverings by hand and she was an exceptional cook. She loved and was extremely proud of her Portuguese heritage and her homeland of Portugal but was always happiest surrounding herself with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury.
Among her survivors are her children, George Polaco of Waterbury, and Maria Carey and her husband William, of Waterbury, her six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Elivar Carvalho, and Etelvina Mania.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Polaco will be held on Wednesday, May 6th 2015 at 10:00 am from EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center," (1987 East Main St., Waterbury) to Our Lady of Fatima Church 2071 Baldwin St Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit with Ermelinda's family at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00AM until the time of the service. Memorial donations in Ermelinda's memory may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church 2071 Baldwin St Waterbury, CT 06706.
