Cherished Husband, Father and Grandfather
WOLCOTT - Mr. Ernest "Ernie" L. Gray, age 76 of Wolcott, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, May 3, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lloyd) Gray. He was the son of Fayette and Jennie (Coolbeth) Gray.
Ernie was born on April 28, 1943 in Hardwick, Vermont and was educated in local schools there. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ernie was a well-respected, dedicated and highly valued employee and Plant Supervisor for Mirror Polishing & Plating in Waterbury, CT for over 50 years. He was a loyal and avid fan of the NY Giants and enjoyed trips to the casino, as well as returning to his native Vermont as often as possible with his wife. He was a skilled woodworker and took pride in refinishing and repairing furniture of all kinds as a hobby. He could fix just about anything and was a master of all trades. Although he had many talents, most importantly, Ernie enjoyed being around his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known and loved him.
Besides his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara, he is survived by his sons, Steven Gray and his wife, Cheryl of Wolcott, Richard Gray of Wolcott and James LaPan and his partner, Jackie Banks-Ciarlelli of Shelton; and his daughters, Debra Veneziano and her husband, Greg of Watertown, and Terri LaPan and her partner, George Innes of Terryville. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca, Jessica, Gregory, Jason, Nicholas, Michelle, Eric, Jacqueline, Alexandrea, Steven, Jenna and Monica and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Edward Gray of Pocatello, ID and two sisters, Alberta Murgatroy and her husband, Robert of Waterbury and Betty Perry of Pocatello, ID as well as nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Fayette Gray and his sister Doris McSwan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury, CT. Burial will immediately follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
