CHESHIRE - Eugene Francis Barrett age 89, of Elim Park, Cheshire, formerly of Wolcott, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 25, 2016 surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the widower of Patricia (Delaney) Barrett and the husband of Patricia (O'Rourke) Barrett.
Eugene was born November 6th 1926 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late James J. and Edna (Tarket) Barrett and was educated in local schools. He proudly served his country with the US Navy during World War II and spent many years working for Southern New England Telephone retiring as a supervisor. Eugene was a member of the Wolcott VFW Post 1979 and was a lifelong member of the Waterbury Y.M.C.A. He was an active parishioner of Saint Michael's Church and he enjoyed gardening, golfing and taking trips to the beach in Maine and Cape Cod.
Besides his wife, Patricia of 41 years, Eugene is survived by his children, Michael Barrett and his wife, Marie of Bristol, Dennis Barrett and his wife, Holly of Wolcott, his daughter, Colleen Maturo of Wolcott, and his 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews, in addition to his beagle and faithful companion, Snoop. Eugene was looking forward to the arrival of his new great grandchild which is expected soon.
Funeral Services for Mr. Barrett will be held on Monday, February 29th, 2016 at 10:00 am at Saint Michaels Church, 63 St. Michael's Drive Waterbury, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Those planning to attend are asked kindly to meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott. Relatives and friends may visit with Eugene's family on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 -4:00pm at CASEY'S EASTSIDE MEMORIAL 1987 East Main St. @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury.
