WATERBURY, CT - Eugene "Gene" M. Coyle age 58 of Woodbury, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Janet (Carlin) Coyle.
Gene was born February 22, 1959 in Waterbury, the son of Helen (Greider) and the late Eugene F. Coyle. He was a graduate of Kaynor Technical High School and attended Mattatuck Community College where he studied Criminal Justice. He joined the Waterbury Police Department in 1980 and rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant where he worked several high profile cases. He retired after 29 years of dedicated service and joined C&D Security and Management Inc, as a Supervisor, a federal contractor to the Federal Protective Services Division of Homeland Security with the mission of protecting Federal institutions and buildings. He served them with distinction until October of 2013. Gene was a loving son, husband and father and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Besides his devoted wife, Janet, to whom he was married for 36 years, he also leaves three children; Kerry Ann, Sean Michael and Katie Ann, all of Woodbury as well as his mother, Helen, his sister, Chris Ellen Lavallee of Waterbury and his brother, Kevin W. Coyle of Montana and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian K. Coyle.
Funeral services for Det. Sgt. Coyle with full Departmental Honors will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 9:30 a.m. Those planning to attend are asked to arrive at the Basilica by 9:15 a.m. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Gene's family on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home at 1987 East Main St. Waterbury.
