AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY - Eva Kabachnick, formally of Torrington, died October 30, 2009 at her home in Delray Beach, Florida.
At 103 years old, Eva was born August 1, 1906 in Brooklyn, N.Y. One of eight children, Eva was the daughter of the late Celia & Samuel Kabotznick. She was the wife of Leo Kabachnick, who passed away in 1942. She was predeceased by her daughters, Edythe Kabachnick Shapiro and Claire Kabachnick Reibman, along with her son-in-law Harold Reibman.
After owning a fruit store in downtown Torrington, Eva Kabachnick opened "Kay's Fashion's for the Home" in 1943 until her retirement in 1979 at the age of 73. She wrote a column for the Torrington Register called, "Mrs. Kay Says" giving advice for the home. As one of the original members of the Beth El Synagogue, Eva was actively involved in the temple sisterhood along with Hadassah.
Eva was a courageous and extraordinarily independent woman. Although her life was filled with challenges and sorrow, she never surrendered or complained. Eva was always known for her good sense of humor, her beautiful hair, her well-dressed attire, her delicious baking and cooking skills, and most importantly her strong commitment to her family. Her dedication and positive attitude continues to be an inspiration to all. Eva has impacted the entire family with her love and strength. Her story will not be forgotten. She will be truly missed.
Eva is survived by her dedicated and loving son Phil, and wife Terri Kabachnick of Madera Beach, Florida and her devoted son-in-law and best friend, Sidney Shapiro of Delray Beach Florida. Eva has eight loving grand children: Lisa Shapiro Schwartz & her husband, Baruch of Betel, Israel; Larry Reibman and his wife Jill of Redondo Beach, California; Alan Shapiro & his wife, Sharona of Har-Nos, Israel, Greg Reibman & his wife Cindy of Newton Highlands, Massachusetts; Barry Shapiro or North Palm Beach, Florida; Elaine Reibman Surveski & her husband, Peter of Harwinton, Connecticut; Lynne Reibman Rudek & her husband, John of Harwinton, Connecticut; and Tracy Ramsey of West Palm, Florida. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kabachnick will be held on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Workmans Circle Cemetery, Stillson Rd. Waterbury CT. Eva will be buried along side her husband in a family graveside service.
Friends will be received at the Surveski home at 3 Mountain View Drive in Harwinton on Monday from 4:00-8:00.
