WATERBURY – Evelyn Marie (Pinnette) Lush, age 73, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, October 2, 2023.
Evelyn was born on January 12, 1950, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Lawrence Pinnette and Elvira Giannini. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Crosby High School. Evelyn worked for The Hartford for many years before retiring. Evelyn was a pillar of Brookside Cooperatives, where she resided. She was one of the originators of creating an affordable and family friendly safe neighborhood, which began in the mid 1980’s. Brookside finally came to fruition in 1991. Evelyn took tremendous pride in the community she called home and the many families who resided there, whom quickly became her close friends and extended family. She was a dedicated leader and avid supporter until the time of her passing.
Evelyn’s hobbies included gardening, bird feeding, watching reality TV shows, and solving crossword puzzles. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she was proudly known as Gram, G-ma, or Gigi. She was exceptionally proud of her family and never missed an event or function, no matter how big or small. She cherished attending her great-grandson Mason's baseball games. Evelyn was also known as "Mom" to her children's friends as they grew up, and she was "Grandma" to all of the neighborhood kids. Her door was always open for anyone, anytime. Evelyn was never too busy to help anyone who needed it; you could always count on her for a ride, a helping hand, or just someone to simply listen when you needed to talk. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and found immeasurable joy in having her family all together, making memories, starting new traditions, and reminiscing about the good times. She loved to cook and was famous for saying, "There is always room for one more", whether she was talking about dinner, a holiday celebration, or someone needing a place to stay. She truly had a heart of gold. Evelyn will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children, Trish Cleveland, Jessica Green, Richard Lush, and Joseph (Maggie) Carroll whom she raised as her own. Twelve grandchildren; Savanna, Skylar, Shawn, Slade, Stephanie, Sierra, Samantha, Scout, Sydney, Seth, Kevin, and Scott. Three great grandchildren; Mason, Jaxon, and Ava. She also leaves her sister, Theresa (Tom) Mcloughlin and brother, Ed (Rose) Pinnette, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Sadly, Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Kevin Lush and John Grenier whom she raised as her own from birth.
