WATERBURY - Mrs. Evelyn (McCooey) O'Connor, age 94 of Rotunda West Florida, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Wednesday April 4, 2018. She was the widow of Brendan O'Connor.

Evelyn was born June 5, 1923 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Pender) McCooey. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Evelyn was employed in the advertising department of Chase Brass and Copper Company and left her position to raise her three children. She strived every single day to be a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and never hesitated to sacrifice her own dreams for that of her family. Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a loving and devoted mother is the greatest of them all. Evelyn will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Brendan, and was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn basketball teams, but her favorite activity was caring for her family, especially her many grandchildren.

Among her survivors are her children; Peggy Finn and her husband, Joe of Rotunda West FL, with whom she made her home, Gary O'Connor and his wife, Pamela of Woodbury and Noreen Massicotte and her husband, Robert of Jacksonville FL; and her devoted grandchildren; Bridgid, Megan, Brendan, Kathleen, Mary, Jenna, Lauren, Robert, Katherine and Daniel. She also leaves her sister, Margaret Ciafardone of Litchfield, four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.. She was predeceased by her brothers; Francis McCooey, Pvt. James McCooey (KIA in World War II), John McCooey and Doris T. Carmody.

Funeral services for Mrs. O'Connor will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Evelyn's family on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until the procession leaves for church services.
