WATERBURY - Evelyn Marie (Smith)Traver, 86, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on Monday, February 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Edward Traver, Sr.
Evelyn was born on April 18, 1932 in Haynesville, Maine and was a lifelong resident of Waterbury, raising eight children basically on her own as a young widow. She worked as a nurse's aide for more than 30 years. As the heart of the Traver family, she loved having family get-togethers and spending time with her family. Evelyn loved Friday nights "chick nights" with her daughters, all the kids, and friends. She was an avid Scrabble player and won most of the time. Other beloved pastimes were bingo, scratching lottery tickets, and traveling to the casino with her friends. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Evelyn was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Massiello, her brother, Raymond Smith, and her sisters, Dorothy Boyle and Geraldine DeVito. She leaves behind her beloved children: Edward (Patricia) Traver Jr. of Wolcott, Ronald (Jean) Traver of Bristol, Kim Taraskewich (Paul) of Waterbury, Scott (Susan) Traver of Waterbury, Richard (Rose) Traver of Waterbury, Wayne (Amy) Traver of Southington and Evelyn (Victor) Pedreira of Florida; and her brother, Herbert Smith of Michigan. Evelyn also leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved grandchildren: Gilbert, Danielle, Martin, Raymond, Stephanie, Tania, Erika, Scott, Casey, John, Marie, Hannah, Christian, Manuel, Amanda, Tiago, Adriano, and Michael; and her 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Traver will be held on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Road, Waterbury, CT. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Evelyn's family on Monday from 10:00 till 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
