WATERBURY - Mr. Fernando Olavarria, age 75, of Baldwin St Waterbury, passed away at his home on Friday February 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness.
Fernando was born May 21, 1938 in Santurce Puerto Rico the son of the late Fernando and Nativadad (Munoz) Olavarria. He grew up in Puerto Rico where he attended local schools before moving the Brooklyn NY area, where he spent several years before settling in Waterbury in the mid 1960's. He worked as a painter with the International Union Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators prior to his retirement. Fernando was an avid sports fan and enjoy watching the New York Yankees, and the Philadelphia Eagles as well as boxing. He enjoyed cooking and especially enjoyed playing dominos
Among his survivors are his daughters Ivette Jessup of Waterbury, Maria Padua and her husband Wilfred of Waterbury, his brothers Roberto Munoz of W. Hartford, Miguel Olavarria and Luis Olavarria of both of Waterbury as well as four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Rafaell Olavarria and his brother Carlos Munoz.
Funeral services for Mr. Olavarria will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Sacred Heart, Sagrado Corazon Church 13 Wolcott St. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Relatives and friends may visit with Fernando's family on Monday evening, February 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eastside Memorial, A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd.
