AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME IN WATERBURY
WATERBURY - Mrs. Florence M. (Aitchison) Pennington, age 86, of Harpers Ferry Rd, Waterbury, died peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of John C. Pennington.
Florence was born on July 11, 1925 in Waterbury the daughter of the late Frederick and Clara (Emonz) Aitchison. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury, graduated from Wilby High School and first worked as a Secretary at Chase School in Waterbury and then worked for many years at O'Rourke & Birch Florists in Waterbury. Florence served two terms as a member of the City of Waterbury, Board of Voter Admissions and was well known for her many years of service at the Waterbury Polling places. Florence loved children and was happiest surrounded by either her own or any child in need of nurturing or love. She also was an avid reader, loved gardening and never shied away from a good poker game. She was dedicated to her family, especially her grandchildren who will cherish her memory in their hearts forever. Florence's family would like to both acknowledge and thank all of Florence's friends at Chase School, Amber from CCCI, Tieshai from TASK, Dr. Kert Sabbath and his office staff but most especially, all of the wonderful and caring professionals at VITAS especially Chaplain Kim.
Florence is survived by her son, John and his wife Maureen of Plymouth, her daughters; Sandra Agic and her husband Zafer of Jensen Beach FL and Donna M. Rodgers of Waterbury as well as her beloved grandchildren; Justine, Christine, Sean, Sarah and great granddaughter Gabriella, who was the light of her life.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pennington will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:30am at Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. Family and friends may visit at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705 on Saturday morning from 9:00 till 11:00am.
