WOLCOTT - Mrs. Frances Theresa Spina age 88, of Wolcott, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on November 5th 2013 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Louis J. Spina Sr.
Mrs. Spina was born October 3, 1925 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Reagan) Hayward. She was raised in Naugatuck where she attended local schools and she enjoyed managing the skating rink at Hamilton Park. She also assisted her husband with his ride concessions at Lake Quassapaug Amusement Park for many years before dedicating herself to raising her family. There was nothing more important to Frances than her family. She was a proud homemaker who enjoyed cooking, knitting, and providing anything and everything she could for her children and grandchildren. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Among her survivors are her children; Katherine Massicotte and her husband Richard of Naugatuck, Barbara Spina Rodriguez and her husband Edgar of Wolcott, Louis J. Spina Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Wolcott with whom she made her home. Edward Spina and his wife Michelle of Oakville, and Patricia Griffin and her husband Christopher Sr. of Terryville. She also leaves her brother, John E. Hayward of Naugatuck and her grandchildren; Katie & Richard Massicotte Jr. Chelsey, Zachary & Alec Rodriguez, Brianna, Louis III, & Matthew Spina, Guytano, Gianna, & Christina Spina, and Christopher, Cassie, & Conor Griffin.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Spina will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2013 at 8:45 am from Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME & TRIBUTE CENTER" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 785 Highland Ave Waterbury to celebrate the liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30a.m. Rites of committal will follow in All Saints Cemetery Spring Lake Rd Waterbury.
