Waterbury Francis A. "Frank" Shanahan ?" age 90 formerly of Thomaston died Monday October 5, 2009 at the Paradigm Healthcare Center the former Marathon Health Care Center of Waterbury after a brief illness. He was the widower of Isabel (Finnegan) Shanahan.
Mr. Shanahan was born April 2nd 1919 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Cornelius and Anna (Lunny) Shanahan. He was a graduate of St Mary's Grammar School and Wilby High School. He was an Army WWII veteran proudly serving his country from 1942-1945, traveling to England, Ireland, North Africa, Tunisia, Italy, France, and Germany. After the service he worked as a fireman for the city of Waterbury and proceeded to work for the Coca Cola Bottling Company for 33 years before his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed camping with his family for many years and was a former parishioner of Saint Thomas Church in Thomaston.
Among his survivors are his son Neil Shanahan and his wife Kathy (Hill) of Waterbury, a daughter Frances Berling and her husband Brent of Thomaston, as well as many nieces and nephews through out the country. He is predeceased by his sisters' Mary (Polly) True, Alice Carrington, and his brother Harold Shanahan.
The Shanahan would like to give a special thank you to the nurses & staff at the Paradigm Health Center for the continuous and generous care that they had provided to Frank over the past year.
Services for Mr. Shanahan will be held Thursday October 8th at 8:15 from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00. Burial will be held in Old Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Visiting hours for Mr. Shanahan are scheduled for Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
