Waterbury - Francis "Frank" McGeever, age 89 of Waterbury, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his family. His beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy, predeceased him in February 2013.
Frank was born July 7, 1924 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late James E. and Mary (Shanahan) McGeever. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident and attended of Russell School and Crosby High School where he was a diver on the swim team. He was employed for many years as a Pressman at Eastern Color Printing and retired in 1987. Frank had many interests ranging from woodworking, watching sports, cooking and listening to Irish music. Until his illness he attended daily Mass and was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Monsignor Slocum Division #1. Frank has a wonderful sense of humor and always loved a good story.
Frank is survived by his children, Francis K. McGeever of Waterbury, James McGeever and his wife Diane of Naugatuck, Elizabeth McGeever of Wilmington DE, Mary Vendetti of Waterbury and Brian McGeever and his wife Carol of Prospect. He also leaves 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, his sister, Marion Kowal, his daughter-in-law, Barbara McGeever and his son-in-law, Daniel Vendetti. The McGeever family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to the Vitas Hospice Care staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their loving care.
Funeral services for Mr. McGeever will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 8:45 am from the EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to Saint Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury to celebrate the liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30am. Commital services will follow in New Joseph's Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends and relatives may visit with the McGeever family at the funeral home on Friday from 5 till 7 pm. Members of the AOH are asked to gather at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:15pm.
