AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Francis P. Walsh Sr. age 80, of Meriden Rd. Waterbury, died on Thursday February 24,2011, surrounded by his loving and devoted family at the Farmington Care Center in Farmington. He was the husband of Mary Louise(Goodman) Walsh.
Mr. Walsh was born on March 14, 1930 in Waterbury, the son of the late John F. and Anna (Mahoney) Walsh. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School in Waterbury and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. Following his tour of duty he joined the Waterbury Fire Department in 1955 and served for 34 years retiring in 1989. He was a distinguished firefighter and rose through the ranks to Battalion Chief. He also worked at the CocaCola Bottling plant in Waterbury and was also the Sexton and general handyman at St. Anthony's Church in Prospect for many years. Frank loved working in the yard, spending time outdoors and was most happy when he was surrounded by his adoring family. He was a member of the Waterbury Police/Fire Retirees and the Waterbury Firefighters Mutual Aid Assoc. For the past many years he was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Besides his loving wife of 53 years, Frank leaves three children, his daughter Louise Ann and her husband Richard Risley of Vernon, his two sons, Frank Jr. of the Waterbury Fire Department and his wife Kathy of Waterbury and John T. Walsh and his wife Jeanne of Southington. Frank also leaves his brother, Raymond Walsh of Woodbury and sisters, Ann (Walsh) Mis and her husband Edmund of Beacon Falls, Mrs. Eleanor (Walsh)Dodds and her husband Thomas of Waterbury, Frank's best friend and brother-in-law, Maurice Shea of Largo FL , sisters-in-law, Kathryn Goodman and companion Brian of Stratford, Carol Goodman of Waterbury and Ann O'Rourke of Naugatuck. He leaves behind his adoring grandchildren; Thomas and wife Wendy, Erin and fiancé Greg, Shannon, Matthew, Christopher, and Megan along with three great grandchildren, Jovonni, Jason and Alaya as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with full Fire Departmental honors will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011
At 9:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main ST Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial with military and fire honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 5 - 8pm.
