Francis "Red" Leone

WATERBURY- Francis "Red" Leone of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was the husband of Shirley (Grenier) Leone.

Francis was born in Waterbury on June 23, 1930, the son of the late Estacchio and Rose (Mastrodonato) Leone. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army as a High Speed Radio Operator in both Japan and Okinawa. He was the owner/operator of Red's Wayside Market on South Main St in Waterbury for over 30 years. Red had a true expertise in carpentry and remodeling which he did for many years following his retirement. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping in Vermont. He also enjoyed painting, gardening and his many vacations but most of all he loved his family and the time he had to spend with them was beyond precious.

Besides his wife of 14 years, he leaves his cherished children; David Leone of Las Vegas NV, Brian Leone of Waterbury, Mark Leone of Naugatuck, Paul Leone of Middle Island NY and Lisa Leone of Waterbury, four grandchildren; Matthew Leone, Anthony Stango III, Giovanni Leone and Heather Leone as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six sisters; Nancy Sasso, Doris Rinaldi, Rose Fernandez, Anna Butler, Elizabeth Gallo and Jennie Martino.

Funeral services for Mr. Leone will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
