Loved and respected by many in Waterbury and Prospect
WATERBURY - Frank M Gumpper, age 80, of Waterbury CT, passed away unexpectedly at Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury on Sunday April 26th, 2020 due to complications of the COVID 19 Virus. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Brown) Gumpper.
Frank was born November 3rd 1939 in Honesdale PA, the son of late Frank and Effie (Monroe) Gumpper. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School in Waterbury, Class of 1957 and then joined the US Air Force where he proudly served his country from 1958 to 1961. Upon being honorably discharged, Frank began working for Chase Brass and Copper in Waterbury where he held various manufacturing positions. In 1968, he began working for the Continental Baking company where he worked for 25 years as a Hostess delivery man. During this time, he made and he enjoyed many new relationships and was well known and loved throughout the Waterbury and Prospect area where he would make his deliveries. Children always looked forward to meeting Frank in hopes of receiving a free twinkie or other treats. He spent many years coaching Girls Softball and Boys Soccer in Prospect and was a man of great faith, an active member of Saint Anthony's Parish in Prospect where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank was also a devoted Giants and Red Sox fan. Frank's tireless commitment to his occupation and community was matched only by his dedication to his family. A dedicated husband, father, son, grandfather and friend, Frank will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his love and memory, besides his wife, Carolyn of 52 years, are his children; Karl Gumpper of Boston, MA, his daughter, Kristine Santovasi and her husband, Anthony of Prospect, Joseph Gumpper and his wife, Lisa Gumpper of North Liberty, Iowa, Frank J. Gumpper and his significant other, Justine Meadows of Fostoria, Ohio, John Gumpper of Prospect and significant other, Kim Fiore of Hamden. Frank and Carolyn were blessed with eight grandchildren and he also leaves his sister, Judith Gumpper Keating of CA. He was predeceased by his sisters, Arlene Hanlon and Joan Benaitis. He also leaves behind his cherished grandogs.
The family would like to thank St Mary's Hospital ICU, especially Dr. Rohit Bari, Dr. Edmund Quinn, and the frontline nursing and physicians' residents who helped Frank and his family during this difficult time.
