U.S. Army, Vietnam Veteran
WATERBURY – Frank (Frankie) Stephen Houghtaling, age 63, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
Frankie was born July 12, 1959, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Frank N. and Louise (Musante) Houghtaling. He was educated at Wilby High School and Central Texas College. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the close of the Vietnam War Era stationed in Ft Hood, TX where he served honorably as an E4 Specialist, tank turret repairman in the 2nd Armored Division, appropriately nicknamed “Hell on Wheels” which fit Frankie’s lifestyle to a tee.
Frankie received his CDL license from NETTTS and spent many years as a truck driver for Bozzuto Inc. and more recently worked as a manufacturing supervisor at West Fall Technik in Ansonia. He enjoyed riding his 1987 Softail Harley Davidson, was a muscle car enthusiast, and was a member of the Wolcott Land Owners Club. Frankie’s gregarious, larger-than-life personality and incredible sense of humor helped him forge countless life-long friendships from every phase of his life; school, the old north end Waterbury neighborhood, the Army and everywhere he worked. He would often say he was “too much craze” a motto he lived his life on the edge by and enjoyed every minute of it to the fullest. He was a deeply caring and loyal man; great son, brother, uncle, stepdad & granddad, husband and overall friend to all. No doubt, he’s riding in the wind with the angels for eternity now, laughing all of the way.
Frankie was predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley K Jewett Houghtaling and stepdaughter, Tammy Jewett. Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his brother, Steven Houghtaling and his fiancée, Darlene DeRosa, of Ellington, his sisters; Karen Houghtaling and her partner, Joseph Leonard, of Wolcott, and Laurie Rodgers of AL. Frankie is also survived by his stepchildren, Shelly Lachance and her husband Jay, Wayne Jewett and his wife Gina, Lisa Jewett and 7 grandchildren.
